The file eqbranch.exe is a component of software PurityScan, which is a program whose stated purpose is to scan the computer for hidden adult-related files. Once installed in the computer, PurityScan will also copy itself in the Windows Startup folder as Winservs.exe or Winservn.exe, which loads at startup and show large popup ads while the user is connected to the Internet. This program is classified as an adware, which has the capability to self-update. When Adware PurityScan is executed, it adds itself to the location %UserProfile%\StartMenu\Programs\Purity Scan. This program scans Internet Explorer files, cache, history, browser files, and cookies for adult-related keywords, and then displays the advertisements. The downloaded advertisements come from domains that include fp.clickspring.net, www.clickspring.net, legend.psdtools.com, pisces.clickspring.com, and app.whenu.com. Adware PurityScan contacts a remote server on the clickspring.net domain to register system information and the status of the application with the server and checks for software updates to install.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. eqbranch.exe. is used by PurityScan, If you shut down eqbranch.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop eqbranch.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is PurityScan, from your system.
