The file emproxy.exe, known as McAfee Email proxy, belongs to software McAfee Email Proxy. Proxy is a component of McAfee GTI (Global Threat Intelligence) Proxy that enables McAfee VirusScan Enterprise nodes to perform file reputation queries from within the enterprise network. GTI Proxy ensures that organizations are provided with up-to-date threat protection and robust virus protection capabilities. McAfee Email Protection employs GTI Proxy, which is a virtual appliance that enables GTI clients to turn on the file reputation protection. This provides a strong defense against advanced persistent threats and botnets. GTI Proxy consolidates communications between VirusScan Enterprise clients that have GTI file reputation queries activated and the McAfee cloud through a set of auditable proxy servers. It is delivered as VMWare virtual appliance and managed by the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) platform. GTI Proxy runs as an unprivileged user and uses Sudo when privileged access is needed.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. emproxy.exe. is used by GTI Proxy, If you shut down emproxy.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop emproxy.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is GTI Proxy, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as GTI Proxy, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
