Lphant is peer-to-peer file sharing client for Microsoft Windows, Linus, and Mac OS operating systems. This application supports the eDonkey Network and the BitTorrent protocol, and is available in nineteen languages. The eDonkey network that is supported by lphant is a decentralized, mostly server-based P2P file-sharing network that is best suited to share big files among users and to provide long-term availability of files. The original lphant software is different from its current verison (lphant 5.1), which is also file-sharing software that operates on a restricted, proprietary network that has acquired the original application's user base. Lphant version 5.1 does not support eDonkey Network and the BitTorrent protocol, but contains social networking-style features such as profiles, friends, and status updates. Lphant 5.1 is freeware that allows it users to download MP3s and offers support to iPod and MP3 players.
