The file dvobsub.ax, also known as DirectVobSub, belongs to software DirectVobSub by Gabest. DirectVobSub, formerly known as VSFilter, is software addon for Microsoft Windows. This addon is a directShow subtitle filter that integrates automatically with direcShow players like the Zoom Player, Windows Media Player, and media Player Classic. This subtitle filter can read external subtitle files, and superimpose them on a playing video file, without ripping the DVD to a file. DirectVobSub can be used as a plugin for AviSynth and Virtualdub. This application is formerly a component of a whole application known as VobSub that extract subtitles from DVD Video and create text-based subtitles without ripping the DVD to a file. Once it is installed in the system, playing a movie of any format with external subtitles is possible on the directShow player. This application is licensed as freeware for the Windows operating system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. dvobsub.ax. is used by DirectVobSub, If you shut down dvobsub.ax, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop dvobsub.ax, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is DirectVobSub, from your system.
