What is  ddmservice.exe

The program ddmservice.exe is a download manager service for the DivX Web player application. The program is necessary to set-up the Web player and update DivX plug-ins, which enables users to watch embedded videos on the computer. Aside from playing .divx videos, the Web player also supports videos and audio in the following formats: .avi, .mkv, .mp4, and .mov. It is relatively safe to use and should cause no problems with any Windows programs or browser applications. The file does not take up too much CPU memory, but if it is found to be taking up about fifty percent of CPU memory, the file may be broken or a movie or audio file that was opened contains a virus. In some instances, the program is found to be running in the background even when no video or movie is being played. A number of users also found glitches in normal Windows or browser processes soon after the file was installed/updated or after using the program a few times only. The file can be found in the subfolder C:\Program Files\Divx\DivX Plus Web Player\DDMService.exe.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ddmservice.exe. is used by DivX Web player, If you shut down ddmservice.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
