The file dae.exe, known as Pro Tools, belongs to software Digidesign Audio Engine, which is an audio engine for digital audio sequencing. Digidesign Pro Tools' Audiomedia card provides basic audio I/O capability with EQ as the only audio effect. Digidesign Audio Engine (DAE) with its flash screen and a simple File menu provides the standard interface between the hardware, Audio I/O, and DSP processing that enables the program. It uses the TDM (time division multiplexing) technology that allows several different sets of audio information to be conveyed along a piece of ribbon cable by sending them at different times. This blue ribbon cable with IDC connectors is called the Trans-system Digital Matrix Buss (TDM Buss), which in connection with the TDM software allows up to 256 channels of 24-bit digital audio to be transferred between the computer and the plugin cards. TDM enable software plugins that work like outboard effect units.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. dae.dll. is used by Digidesign Audio Engine, If you shut down dae.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop dae.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Digidesign Audio Engine, from your system.
