The cthkpcv.dll file has been reported by many users as a malicious application classified by their system security tools as a Trojan that belongs to the Win32/Renos family of Trojan downloaders, which are malware items known to infect unprotected Windows-based systems with outdated OS security certificates, unencrypted TCP/IP network ports and an unsecured Windows System Registry. Other user groups claim that their own anti-malware programs flag the cthkpcv.dll file as a malware item associated with variants of the TROJ_FAKEALRT.AW application, which is another family of Trojans and worms reported to infect unprotected Windows-based computers. In both cases, these users state that the cthkpcv.dll malware is distributed with EXE component processes that are said to be embedded with autorun code or self-activating functionalities implemented by these executable files upon their initial placement and activation in the unprotected system. These users claim that this allows the cthkpcv.dll malware and its executable component processes to create and inject keys and entries into the unsecured Windows System Registry, and these registry strings are said to allow the cthkpcv.dll malware to automatically initialize during system startup, operate as a cloacked background process during system runtime and exploit system vulnerabilities like unencrypted TCP/IP network ports, missing OS security certificates and outdated Web browsers of the unprotected computer. These users reported that these exploited system vulnerabilities are used by the cthkpcv.dll malware and its EXE component processes to initiate contact with predesignated remote servers, download more malicious applications unto the infected system and perform instructions or directives transmitted to the compromised computer by these remote servers, which are said to be managed by the authors of the cthkpcv.dll malware.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. cthkpcv.dll. is used by Win32/Renos Trojan and TROJ_FAKEALRT.AW, If you shut down cthkpcv.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop cthkpcv.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Win32/Renos Trojan and TROJ_FAKEALRT.AW, from your system.
