The cmupdater.exe file is an executable process deployed into the system by the software utilities included in the Smart Bro suite, which is comprised of firmware components, driver software resources and bundled applications that are distributed to Smart Bro subscribers with ZTE network devices. These ZTE routers are packaged with Smart Bro Internet subscription plans, and the cmupdater.exe process assists in the integration of the device updating functionalities embedded in these ZTE routers. This means, upon the installation of these Smart Bro installer distributions, the cmupdater.exe process and other bundled applications along with the firmware utilities and device driver software components of these ZTE network devices are placed in the system, in which the cmupdater.exe process is configured by default to automatically initialize during system startup, in order to implement the device status monitoring and updating functionalities of these ZTE routers into the Windows-based computer during system runtime, or specifically whenever these ZTE network devices are actively being used by the system. This means the cmupdater.exe file operates as a background process upon its initialization, in order to notify the user about certain ZTE router firmware and driver updates or upgrades that have recently become available, if any, and can be automatically downloaded or installed in the system upon user request.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. cmupdater.exe. is used by ZTE Router Firmware/Driver Software and Smart Bro Utility, If you shut down cmupdater.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop cmupdater.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ZTE Router Firmware/Driver Software and Smart Bro Utility, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as ZTE Router Firmware/Driver Software and Smart Bro Utility, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.

The first thing you should do if cmupdater.exe. is causing errors on your computer is to run a Windows registry scan with Registry Reviver If you are still seeing errors after this you should uninstall the program that cmupdater.exe, belongs to, in this case ZTE Router Firmware/Driver Software and Smart Bro Utility
