The cm106.cpl is a process file with a description CmiCnfg Dynamic Link Library (DLL) developed by C-Media. It is reportedly used as a driver that enables users to access audio devices via a USB port. The cm106.cpl process can be located in the folder C:\WINDOWS\system\. DLL refers to “Dynamically Linked/Loaded Library. These files provide most of the functionality of the Windows operating system, specifically when a program is run. DLLs are used in the modularization of code, effective memory usage, reuse of code, and decreased disk space. Hence, the operating system and its programs are able to run and load faster without occupying a lot of disk space. DLLs may be composed of a combination of resources, code and data, and supply a higher level of services to the entire computer system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. cm106.cpl. is used by CmiCnfg DLL, If you shut down cm106.cpl, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop cm106.cpl, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is CmiCnfg DLL, from your system.
