What is  clmss.exe

The clmss.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by many users as a malicious application that was flagged by their system security tools as a worm associated with the W32/Tilebot-AO program, which is a family of worms and backdoor rootkits known to infect unprotected Windows-based systems. These users claim that the clmss.exe process is deployed into Windows-based computers as the Content List Management Sub System Service application, which operates as a background process during system runtime. The same users also state that the clmss.exe process is embedded with self-activating functionalities and is capable of creating keys and entries that this malicious program can inject into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the Windows-based system. These registry keys and entries, according to these users, are said to instruct the system to allow the clmss.exe process to implement its self-executing functionalities during system startup. The clmss.exe process is also said to be capable of searching for system vulnerabilities, such as unencrypted TCP/IP network ports that it can exploit and use to initiate contact with remote servers that are managed by its authors, and these remote servers transmit instructions that the clmss.exe process is said to perform in the infected system upon receipt of these directives.

How can I stop clmss.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. clmss.exe. is used by W32/Tilebot-AO, If you shut down clmss.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop clmss.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is W32/Tilebot-AO, from your system.
