AVG Anti-Virus Free 6.0 keeps the smooth operations of your computer by detecting and stopping threats, malicious software and viruses from targeting your system. Its features include personal E-mail scanner, resident shield, update manager and on-demand plus other tests. It does consume a lot of CPU resources. AVG or Anti-Virus Guard is a family of Internet security and anti-virus programs for various systems including Windows, FreeBSD, Linux and Mac OS X.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. avgserv.exe. is used by AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System, If you shut down avgserv.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop avgserv.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System, from your system.
