What is  aspell.exe

The spell checker for Digsby is executed through the file aspell.exe. It is most commonly used for IM chatting. The file’s standard location is C:\Program Files\Aspell\bin\aspell.exe. The file may also be saved as C:\Program Files\Digsby\lib\aspell\bin\aspell.exe. The spell checker supports about fifty languages. Although the file is usually associated with Digsby, some users discovered that some of the programs that they installed also have the spell checker file which was automatically installed with the software. The size of the file varies, around 132,608 bytes up to 788,332 bytes. The bigger-sized file however, is more common than its smaller counterpart. The process does not appear to be associated with a third-party program. Disabling or uninstalling the application depends on user’s choice. No users found the file to be a threat to security, and they also did not find the file to be using up memory. It runs as a low priority process. The spell check works in pretty much the same way as other spell checkers, where a misspelled word will be underline with a red mark.

How can I stop aspell.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. aspell.exe. is used by Digsby Spell Checker, If you shut down aspell.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop aspell.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Digsby Spell Checker, from your system.
