Acrodist.exe is the executable file for Adobe Acrobat Distiller, a set of programs designed to create, view, print, manage and manipulate files under PDF or Portable Document Format. Except for Adobe Reader (formerly called Acrobat Reader) which is a freeware, all components of the Adobe Acrobat Distiller are commercial programs. Adobe Reader enables the users to view and print the PDF files albeit negligible creation capabilities. The Acrobat and the Reader are widely used methods for presenting data with fixed layout that are similar to paper publication. PDF had become standard since 1990, resulting to developments of free and commercial programs which manipulate PDF. Adobe reader allows the Acrobat Reader plug-ins that can be developed and programmed by third parties, thus adding extra functions and features to the Acrobat application. Adobe regularly changes names and sets software updates and changes such as merging, dividing, and discontinuing some features or products.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. acrodist.exe. is used by Adobe Acrobat Distiller, If you shut down acrodist.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop acrodist.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Adobe Acrobat Distiller, from your system.
