The 3dm2.exe executable service is a part of the 3DM2 Management Utility and is its main launcher. The 3dm2.exe executable was programmed and developed by the 3ware company which is now a part and is in ownership of LSI Holdings. The 3ware 3DM2 Management Utility was a supporting web-based utility for 3ware’s SATA/SAS RAID Controllers. The interface gives the user control and management over the products, specifically 3ware RAID controllers. The 3ware company specialized in manufacturing RAID controllers. The RAID controllers were used for Serial Attached SCSI, SATA, and Parallel ATA storage devices. The 3ware 3DM2 Management Utility for 3ware devices functions as an online notification system which allows the user to be notified by email about product errors and problems. The operating system Linux has made their version of the 3DM2 Management Utility and uses it for the same purpose. Linux developers also named the utility 3DM2. The 3DM2 Management Utility is still currently made available for 3ware hardware owners who use Windows and Mac OS.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. 3dm2.exe. is used by 3DM2, If you shut down 3dm2.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop 3dm2.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is 3DM2, from your system.
