In the early 1990s, the file extension WMC was the format implemented by the de facto word processor at that time, in which this word processor was later on replaced by Microsoft Word. Be careful not to rename the extension on .WMC  files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
