How do I access the Windows Registry and modify the registry manually?

The Windows Registry can be accessed using Microsoft's Registry Editor:

Go to Start > Run or type in > REGEDIT > OK

However, the Registry is stored in several files through different registry entries. The exact names and locations of these files depend on the version of Window you are using.

While you can edit the Registry by using Microsoft's Registry Editor (Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe), using it incorrectly or making changes you are unsure of, can cause serious problems and require you to reinstall your Windows operating system again.

We do not recommend making changes in the Windows Registry, if you are unsure or doubtful about what you are doing. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.
