Can't delete self-created .wav file from desktop. File is making computer run VERY slow.

I was mixing down some audio (In FL Studio 11) so I created a folder on my desktop in which the audio I was mixing down would be saved, but I aborted the mix down half way through, and now there is a self-created .wav file inside a folder on my desktop that WILL NOT be deleted. I cannot delete the file itself nor can I delete the folder that contains it. If I right click and delete the folder, it will load as if it is going to delete but will be stuck at the loading screen for hours on end if I let it, and if I try to right click on the file, my computer will freeze up as if it is trying to load the information for the file. Every time I even try to click on the file or overwrite it with another file, my computer completely freezes until I open up the task manager and end the process. Also I've noticed that as soon as the file was created, my computer has been going EXTREMELY slower than usual. It cannot be a coincidence that as soon as the file was created, my computer started to slow down immensely. I do not know why it is doing this but some help would be appreciated. I've already tried the 9 steps on speeding up your computer on the reviversoft website as well and still, the file will not be deleted and is making my computer run very slow.

Hi Michael,

I can think of three ways to be able to delete the file:

1. Restart your computer in the Windows Safe Mode, locate the file or folder and try deleting it.

2. Run the Command Prompt ( CMD ) as an Administrator, use the delete ( del ) command to delete the file or folder.

3. Use the Unlocker app to unlock the wav file and then try deleting it. You can get the app from here:

http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

Once you\'ve deleted the file, restart your computer and check to see if everything\'s OK.

Next time, be sure to allow FL Studio to complete the saving/exporting process without any interruptions. I would also refrain from running any other apps or services in the background when running FL Studio.

Hope this helps.

James

Thank you very much. The Unlocker app did it for me. My computer seems to be running back to normal. Thanks again.

For those who can not delete wav-files using Unlocker or Revo Uninstall: I have exactly the same problem it was a year ago. Just came back. On the desktop got out a few of wav-files from FL-Studio 10, which are not removed and brake system. There are ways to remove these wav-files. It's pretty weird, but works perfectly (on-at least for me). Neither Unlocker or REVO Uninstaller PRO (which is $ 40) does not remove them. Record recipe: 1) download and install the free prog AIMP, it is like winamp, the function performs the same. 2) Open the main menu, AIMP, the screen should appear the program's. 3) add the file into the window you want to delete 4) click on the file in the program window, right-click menu appears 5) in the mouse get the \ "delete \", then get out another menu where you need to click on the \ "delete selected files from the disk \" 6) The file will be deleted, even if the program hangs. Just have to wait a minute or two, and if the program is closed, then close it by force. All actions should be carried out slowly, ie after each trip to wait at least a minute. Do not add the window Applications AIMP multiple files one by one. Again, if the program hangs, wait 2 minutes, and then close the program mandatory. I have no idea how it works and how it is interconnected, but this way I have twice got rid of these files. Without restoring or reinstalling the system, disk formatting and other \ "disease \" of adverse effects.

I am using Windows 8 and had the same issue even with a proper export. Oddly enough,  it also seemed to interfere with Windows Explorer working properly, with "This PC" hanging and thumbnails failing to load. Safe Mode, takeown, and cmd did not work for me.

My understanding is that Unlocker works, but also happens to have its own adware. I've never used it myself, so I can't say from experience. I would just say to download at your own risk, and I'm glad it worked for you.

A far easier solution I discovered (inspired by helpER FAQ's answer) is to simply open up FL Studio, locate the files in your file browser, right-click>Windows shell menu>Delete. And poof! It was gone.

Not sure why the shell menu needed to be accessed through the DAW to work. Maybe the DAW knows something about the file location that Windows does not? I'm no expert with operating systems.

Anyways, if anyone else has this issue, I would at least try this method before downloading 3rd party software. Hope this helps!

Hi Michael,

Try deleting the file in safe mode. Follow the steps below:
  1. Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep), tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.

  2. After your computer displays hardware information and runs a memory test, the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear.

  3. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking and press ENTER.

You can also delete it forcefully.
Enter the command prompt (Start-> Run-> Cmd) and enter ‘del /f filename’, where ‘filename’ is the name of the file or files (you can specify multiple files using commas) you want to delete.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh
