I have tried Microsoft Mr fix it. It stated every should be working well now. But windows still will not update. Then I paid to have this fixed it cost me 200.00 and still nothing. I tried every thing. I thought just maybe your software could fix this. But at this time I am unable to pay for it. I am on a fixed income and I already spent money which I threw out the house window.. I would like to see if you could help me with this problem.

Hi Robert,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble updating Windows.

To answer your first question, you can still run your computer without the updates. However, most of the "recommended" updates include fixes, enhancements and address vulnerabilities of various Windows programs and services, which is why it is best to install them and keep your computer running reliably. Windows also offers "Optional" updates that you can personally review and choose to ignore.

Onto the 8024200d Windows Update error code, let's work through the checklist below:

1. Turn off your Internet Security/Firewall/Anti-virus program temporarily, restart Windows Updates and try installing the update.

2. Run the Windows System Update Readiness tool on your PC and allow it to find and fix issues it detects:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/do...
http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/do... (For 64bit)

3. Maybe you've done this already, but try resetting your Windows Update components to reset all settings and try again:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9...

4. Run the Windows System File Checker tool to scan for and fix potential problems with your Windows installation:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9...

5. I noticed that you already have Win 7 Service Pack 1 installed on your PC. So if you're having trouble installing a specific Windows Update, please include the details (KB number) of the update here. We can use that info to help you manually install the update.

Let us know how you go with this.

Good luck,

James

Hi Robert,

If you receive Windows Update error 8024200d, it can mean that an update did not finish downloading or installing.

You can try the below methods to resolve the update issue:

Method 1: Run Windows update troubleshooter (if you have not run already)
Click Settings and type troubleshooting in the text box.
Click Troubleshooting from the list of results.
Click Fix problems with Windows Update, click Next and follow the instructions.

Method 2: Perform clean boot and check.
You may perform a clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue.
Step 1:
a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.
c) Click the ‘Boot’ tab and uncheck ‘Safe Boot’ option.
d) On the ‘General’ tab, click to select the option ‘Selective startup’, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box.
e) On the ‘Services’ tab, click to select the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ check box, and then click ‘Disable all’.
f) On the ‘StartUp’ tab, click ‘Open Task Manager’. In the Task Manager window under startup tab, right click on each startup item which are enabled and select ‘Disable’.
g) Click ‘OK’, and then click Restart.

Step 2: Enable half of the services
a) Follow steps 1a and 1b to start the System Configuration utility.
b) Click the Services tab, and then click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box.
c) Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.
d) Click OK, and then click Restart.

Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns
If problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Service list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 2. In step 2, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Service list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one service is selected in the Service list, and you still experience the problem, the selected service causes the problem. Go to step 6. If no service causes this problem, go to step 4.

Step 4: Enable half of the Startup items
If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step.

Step 5: Determine whether the problem returnsIf the problem still occurs, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you originally selected in the Startup Item list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat step 1 and step 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Startup Item list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one startup item is selected in the Startup Item list, and you still experience the problem, the startup item that is selected in the list is the service that is causing the problem. Go to step 6.

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely causes the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the Hide all Microsoft services check box in either step.

Step 6: Resolve the problemAfter you determine the startup item or the service that causes the problem, contact the program manufacturer to determine whether the problem can be resolved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box for the problem item.

Step 7:
Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to boot to normal startup.
a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.
c) On the ‘General’ tab, click the ‘Normal Startup’ option, and then click ‘OK’.
d) When you are prompted to restart the computer, click ‘Restart’.

Method 3: Run System Update Readiness Tool and check.

Download the System Update Readiness tool from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=44e15787-66b0-4e9c-9c3b-1fc9ea40f69fjjInstall and run the tool.

Install and run it.
When the tool is being installed, it automatically runs. Although it typically takes less than 15 minutes to run, it might take much longer on some computers. Even if the progress bar seems to stop, the scan is still running, so don't click Cancel.

When you see Installation complete, click Close.
Reinstall the update or service pack you were trying to install previously.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh
