Hi Peter,

“Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device” is a bios error and it can occur when your computer’s bios having some problem to find the hard disk or maybe bootable devices.

By showing the error name “Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key” your bios is just trying to say that, it isn’t able to recognize your computer’s hard disk drive and if you don’t have a hard disk connected to your computer then connected a hard disk in it and select it in your Bios Boot Device Priority.

Fix 1: Remove external devices
Normally When our computer’s boots up its starts to scan every storage device connected to it and if it finds anything bootable connected to your computer beside your main hard disk then it possible it changes the boot sequence itself and you’ll be seeing this error on your screen.

So, just remove everything from your computer’s USB port. Mainly your external Hard Drive, Pen Drive or Bootable Disc.

Fix 2: Check if hard disk is connected properly or not
The best way to find your hard disk connection is to check its status in your computer’s bios to ensure that your HDD is connected properly to your computer.

Now open your computer’s bios setup by pressing the Del or F2 key on the keyboard when your computer’s start.

It’s possible your computer don’t open the bios setup after pressing the Del or F2 key because it having its own predefined key to open itself.

After that go to the “Boot Setting” or “Standard Cmos Features” or may be on a page which shows you your computer’s having a hard disk attached to it, which you can find easily.Image result for After that go to the “Boot Setting” or “Standard Cmos Features” or may be on a page which shows you your computer’s having a hard disk attached to it, which you can find easily.

If you don’t find your hard disk listed or mention in your bios menu then it’s possible your Hard disk is not connected properly because of some faulty cable or maybe your Hard disk got dead.

You can also try to fixing it by changing your hard disk’s “SATA” or “IDE” cable which mainly connects your hard disk to the motherboard and most of the times replacing cable works and if it won’t work either then you should try to change the hard disk power connect with the other free connectors which were normally coming from the Power Supply.

Fix 3: If Harddisk is found, follow below steps:

Listed HDD in bios indicates, it’s connected properly but the problem is still coming from some other reasons and those reasons are:
  • Bios “Boot Setting” Gets Changed.
  • Windows “Startup Process” Problem.
  • Windows Drive Gets ‘Inactive’.
  • Windows “Master Boot Recode” Got Corrupted.
By changing the boot sequence or boot order for your hard disk can fix this problem.
To Change Boot Setting:
  • Open your computer’s bios setup:
  • Open the boot setting.
  • Set your 1st boot device to your hard disk.
  • Save your setting and restart your computer.

If it doesn't work then, An active partition is a partition in your computer’s hard disk which known as bootable partition who contain your PC’s operating system. Normally only one partition can be active at the time like c: drive where our windows is installed.
Sometimes that partition got inactive due to some reasons and we’ll need to reactive it in order to start our PC.
First, open cmd on your computer’s screen then type the command:

  • diskpart : This command will start disk part utility in your command prompt. When diskpart will start you’ll able to see “DISKPART>” on the left side.
  • list disk : This will list all of your connected drives in your computer.
  • select disk 0 : In this step, we’re selecting our main hard drive where your window is installed. In my case, I’m selecting disk 0 because that’s the only drive shown in my cmd and that’s also the one where my OS is installed.
  • list partition : This command will show you all the partitions created in that disk what you’ve selected.
  • select partition 2 : Normally we are selecting partition 2 because that’s our windows partition but that not prove we will always need to select the 2nd one because sometimes partition 1 can be our windows partition too. So, select the partition where your windows is installed.
  • active : That will make your partition active.
  • exit : Now restart your computer and test it.
I hope this helps in fixing your problem with BIOS.

Regards,
Lokesh
