Hi Dorothy,

The message you are seeing can be caused by many different problems and it has some straightforward fixes which are mentioned below.

1. Diagnose the exact problem

The first thing to do is to check whether the problem is at your end, or whether the website that you’re using is experiencing a problem. Type in another website to your address bar.
For example, try an HD stream from YouTube or if you’re on iPlayer, check out the competition, and see if things run more smoothly on ITVPlayer. If you’re still experiencing problems then the problem is probably at your end.

2. Make sure the router is in just the right spot
The router beams out its signal using an antenna. Just as you’d adjust a radio aerial to get a perfect signal, you can do the same with your router. Move the router about a little, turn it round, move it a little to the left or right or move it into the room with TV. It sounds simple but it’s probably the most common solution.

3. Change your WiFi channel
Your router can choose from 13 channels to pump out your wifi signal. The idea is that other routers in the area can spread out across the channels so as to prevent them from competing with one another. But sometimes routers cluster on one channel and this can slow things down.
If your internet is suddenly a lot slower it may be because your neighbor has just got a new router and is on the same channel as you.
The exact means of changing the channel varies from router to router.

Example from BT.Type in http://bthomehub.ho... click Settings, then Wireless, find Channel Selection and choose a new channel from the drop down options – the channels you are advised to use are 1, 7 and 13.

4. Keep your WiFi private
It might be that your WiFi is open and someone else is cheekily using your internet and clogging up your bandwidth. Time to turn off the tap. To set up a password so that only authorized devices can use your WiFi click Start on your computer, then choose All Programs and launch Internet Explorer or another web browser.
Enter the address of your router into the browser’s address bar (this is the number listed on the router and its instruction manual), then press Enter. To change the password, click on the Administration or Settings tab (this may vary from router to router). Then set up a password for your router.

5. Reset all equipment
Try powering all of your network equipment off, wait a few minutes, then power all equipment back on. When performing this procedure, first turn off the computer; then unplug the power from the back of the modem.
If you have a telephony modem you can use the reset button (if available) or remove the battery. If you are using a router, disconnect the power cord from this also.
After a few minutes, start by plugging the power back into the modem first and wait a minute or two for the modem lights to indicate an online status. Then plug in the power to the router and wait a few moments for this to come online. Lastly, turn on the computer and try your connection again to see if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh
