Developed by Novell Incorporated, dagent.exe is the executable file for PatchLink Discovery Agent, a software for application patches and updates management that allows system administrators to automation of collection, data analysis, and installation of programs throughout the entire network from one single location. The dagent.exe process originates from the software installed in the system, and it works by searching for applicable software updates for the PC to enable the PatchLink Update to download them. It scans the hard disk for installed programs, checks the central server for updates, and passes the results to PatchLink Update for downloading and installing services. The only drawback with the dagent.exe process is that it decreases the system performance if the PC has limited storage and speed, resulting to potential system crashes during the deployment connection when the connection fails to release successfully. Thus, it is recommended that the programmer check the dagent.log file program list prior to running the dagent.exe process.
