This has been a persistent problem with my computer since I purchased it and Alienwar (now DELL) tech support has been little if any help. I did a complete reinstall of my Windows 7 OS and that still did not fix the problem.

Hi Chris,

Driver Power State Failure is an error that is displayed in Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This error is mostly displayed due to incompatible or inappropriate driver for any hardware device that a computer system may have.

A simple restart is often all that is required to resolve the issue. If the problem still persists even after the restart, the computer must be restarted in safe mode, and the problematic device driver must be uninstalled.

After uninstalling the problematic driver, its new and compatible version must be installed.

Regards,
Lokesh

Hi Chris, At first glance and based on a few user reports, it seems like you have a hardware problem. Most likely your graphics card which may need to be replaced by Dell. However, let\'s work through a few things first: 1. Do you know which graphics card you have installed? The M17xR3 comes with several graphics card configurations from Nvidia and AMD. You will need to try doing a clean re-installation of the latest graphics card (video) drivers 2. As for the system BIOS, here\'s a link to the latest BIOS Update for your laptop: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/alienware-m17x-r3?driverId=9MJ02&osCode=W764&fileId=3011582943&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI Check to see if you have an older version and install this update Let us know how you go with this. Good luck, James

Chris, If your system specs match the specs below (you can use Belark to get the exact specs of your laptop\'s hardware components), then you can try getting the correct NVIDIA display drivers for your Alienware M17xR3 laptop from Dell -- Remember to uninstall your current NVIDIA display drivers before installing the correct NVIDIA display drivers that you\'ll be getting from Dell -- This was the same solution that worked for a user with the same laptop, same OS (Windows 7) and same problem as the issue that you posted here. Let us know what happens... Manufacturer = Alienware Product Model = M17xR3 Processor = Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00 Ghz, 2001 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) RAM = 16.0 Gb GPU = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M ( Sound = IDT High Definition Audio CODEC HDD = SAMSUNG HM321HI, 320 Gb Net Adapter = Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller, Killer Wireless-N 1103 Network Adapter
