Hi Yi,
You can have a repair done on your AVG antivirus using the Repair tool.
To repair your AVG please follow below steps:
- Go to Start -> Control Panel.
- Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
- Select AVG in the list of programs.
- Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
- Select Repair.
- Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
- Restart your computer.
Still if you are not able to open AVG, then use AVG Remover. It eliminates all the parts of your AVG installation from your computer, including registry items, installation files, user files, etc.
AVG Remover is the last option to be used in case the AVG uninstall / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.
The link below will lead you to the AVG Remover Tool:

Then you can have a fresh installation of AVG:
- Click the name of your product to download the installation file:
- AVG AntiVirus
AVG Internet Security - Run the downloaded file to start the installation process.
- Follow the instructions on your screen.
- When prompted, enter your AVG license number. The license number is sent automatically to your e-mail once purchased.
- Complete the installation and restart your computer.
Still if it doesn't work, then you are having issues with shortcut icons on your desktop.
The desktop icons are shortcuts to respective applications. If you right-click any desktop icon and click on
Properties, you will get a
Properties dialog box with the
Shortcut tab selected. If it is not, select the
Shortcut tab to see the program it is associated with.
In the case of desktop icons not working, however, you need to know what applications are required to open each type of icon. If you know, you can simply use the right-click ->
Properties to set up the default program. Just browse
Program Files – in the system drive – using Windows Explorer and copy the path of the application related to the desktop icon or shortcut. In the
Properties dialog box, paste the path followed by the app’s executable name.

I hope this helps in getting back AVG.
Regards,
Lokesh
