F8 doesn’t start WINDOWS 8 in safe mode, from what I have read, it needs to be set up in windows 8 first. Not much use now that i get the BSoD and therefore cannot boot windows to switch on the safe mode!!

  • reviversoft

    Hi Mick,
In Windows 8, holding down Shift + F8, then going through the menus, will then let you reboot again and go straight to the Safe Mode menu.

  • Mick

    Hi disqus,
As I said the first time, that is absolutely useless if you can’t get windows to boot up in the first place!

  • reviversoft

    Hi Mick,
You misunderstand. Hit Shift+F8 when starting up your PC, before the Windows logo appears. Good luck!

Actually my BSOD Pool header issues seem to have crept up after installing Setpoint from Logitech. But I had also installed a Bluetooth dongle but that I allowed to use the Microsoft driver. So I suspect the Logitech Setpoint software to be the issue.

Hmm Im using windows 7 and the error only just cropped up recently for mr. Thing is though, its been ages since i installed anything

  • ReviverSoft

    Hi Dom,
Hmmm. Has anyone else used the PC? Have you added any new hardware? This might be the result of a bad Windows Update as well.

  • user3107

This just happened to me now . I was doing nothing and I didn’t install anything recently. But I never make any updates so now I’m doing all the suggested updates in windows update . Hoope it gets fixed .

  • ReviverSoft

Good luck! Let us know if you run into any further problems.

  • ReviverSoft

Interesting. Thanks for the tip regarding Setpoint possibly causing BSoD issues.

  • ReviverSoft

    Hi Dom,
Great! Let us know if you run into any further issues.

  • Samuel Onyike

    Hi.
My PC developed this problem just after my avast expired. I thought it was due to a viral attack. I also updated some drivers and installed some other stuff.

  • ReviverSoft

    Samuel,
It might be Avast! itself causing the issue. Try uninstalling it and installing a different antivirus, such as Microsoft Security Essentials, and see if the problem goes away. Good luck!

  • Yes this is very likely the cause. Try and replace it with something else like Avira or Avast and contact Kaspersky to let them know of the problem.

  • jv

same thing to me!! im in school right now but i saw when u turned off your wifi and use the computer it will work then u can download some pccleaner

  • Jenn

I got this error too and I dont use avast or any other anti virus except avg and I havent needed to update that in awhile so the only thing I can think of that crashed it was the adobe flash update I did. Thats when i got this error. cant boot into safe mode, have to go into f9 to get to restore and it just keeps saying the hard drive is locked and can not refresh the computer. And systems restores dont even work. just keeps looping back to the blue smiley of doom. :( Not even a year old.

    Hi
I’m on a blue screen and it says “your PC has ran into a problem and needs a restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then you can restart. (0% complete)” this stays on 0% and doesn’t move at all

  • Birendra Tirkey

its due to RAM……immediately change ram for preventing data loss

  • Hound-Dog

Have had a Bad Pool Header error every since i installed the full features of Avast anti virus software. Even paid them $180 for a Microsoft Tech to log on and fix the problem .. Never could fix it … Even one of their lower techs said the guy before him didn’t fix anything. that was one of their own microsoft technicians .Well Guess What I went out and checked a few forums and they all have problems with 8.1 and avast. So I guess they took me for $180. Fool me ounce shame on U fool me twice shame on me. Besides 8.1 has windows defender built in.

  • Tiffany Alyce

I didn’t get this until just now. I upgraded to an ASUS from a Toshiba with a Windows 10 update and I think this is probably either the first or second time it’s happened. It may have been the second time cause when I woke up one time, my laptop was on the start screen which is not how I left it originally.

On safe mode with networking Internet doesn’t work and I can’t download it from another pc and put it on a pendrive coz pc no longer recognizes pendrives…

  • yovanyovo

The problem started when the pc was taking a lot of time to stop and I maintained the stop button(not recommended)

It just happened to me 2 minutes ago! I never installed anything, and all I was doing was searching my YouTube Channel: Toothpaste, when I clicked a video, then this happened… Also I have windows 8

Mine started after a power cut while writing files to RAM disc.. Now it does disc check every 3-6 startups. Unfourtinatly I can’t put my finger on the solution but I can give some tips that inexperienced people will find useful.

I suggest creating a bootable USB linux stick with BartPE in case it has a serious data loss level of crash. Boot into linux and backup your files and clean install everything. It’s faster than any other solution because the problem will just keep getting worse as the data corrupts repeatedly. If you cant find your serial look up my flower collection or remove WAT.

If you want a system that boots from a VHD snapshot look up Steady State DIY. It will discard any changes made to the system and it will be the same day in day out… it’s not perticularly easy to set up but it works but there is a tiny lag due to OS running from VHD.

I kept mine going for 6 months just to see how bad it gets. Still not dead, and mostly usable. I have everything backed up so data loss is a minor neusance.

I am now missing computer management, all backup, sys restore, paint, notepad and logging parts of windows, video editing software and 2 browsers and a bunch of utilitoes for overclocking..

Still runs fine for the work I am doing, waiting for it to just not start up at all just for the hell of it. In theory it won’t damage the hardware. In theory though.. It’s kind of crazy how well windows actually pulls though that sort of issue. I did have it completely seem to die and then start up again after 4 tries.

Props to windows 7, strongest microsoft OS thus far.

    PS
I did also find that my PC ran better when I took out my Nvidia GPU. Their drivers are far from great unforutinately. In fact my one ran better with old drivers.

Same here. I was just watching a youtube video in full screen. But I also had my McAfee do a full scan at the same time. I had it for a while tho and this is the first time it happened.

I have a new ‘custom built’ PC with Win 10. When I first started using it I uninstalled the antivirus that came with it – at least I thought I did. There was still a folder for the one they installed, Avira. I deleted it. I had a difficult time getting Windows Defender to work but finally it was able to update and run scans. I also use Ccleaner. I ran a scan to clean the registry of files associated with the uninstalled programs. After a while my PC began to automatically shut down with the Blue screen: The error at the bottom of the “PC ran into a problem …….. and under that is the Error: Bad Pool Header.

There wasn’t a CD/DVD burner with it so I installed one I had on my HP w?Win 7. The shut down/blue screen didn’t happen until I ran the uninstalls and reg. cleaner. I’m worried CCleaner may have deleted some I need. I know it’s my own fault but would really appreciate any help. I’m a complete novice when it comes to understanding the registry etc.

For what it’s worth, as the saying goes. I traced my repeated BSOD incidents to Malwarebytes running at the same time as Norton 360, and having the same results with Malwarebytes running with Webroot. Norton, and Webroot, run fine by themselves. They will not operate for very long with Malwarebytes running at the same time. The repeated BSOD events occurred on two Dell Optiplex Desktops, the 755 Model WITH 8 meg, and a 760 Model with 4 meg. Both machines were free Windows 10 updates from Windows 8. In repeated testing, trying to run Mbam in conjunction with Norton, or Webroot antivirus apps, would trigger a BSOD with the Bad Pool Header notification. Shutting down Mbam when the primary virus apps were running, ended the issue. I use the premium Mbam app, and can run it on either of my machines as long as I shut down Norton, and Webroot, before activating Mbam. No surprises here. Two antivirus programs at the same time will create conflicts, although Bad Pool Header is usually associated with hardware/driver conflicts.
