The wsimd.sys process is a system driver file implemented as one of the component utilities and libraries of the firmware resources and driver software distributions that are bundled with certain motherboards equipped with Qualcom Atheros wireless LAN devices and chipsets. The wsimd.sys process assists these Atheros firmware utilities and driver software components in the integration of the embedded functionalities of associated Atheros devices and chipsets that are connected to the motherboard of the Windows-based system by serving as one of the component driver utilities used by the Wireless Intermediate Miniport Driver module, which is an applet built into these Atheros firmware resources and drivers. The wsimd.sys driver is included as one of the files and modules bundled into the installer distribution packages of these Atheros firmware utilities and driver software components, which means the wsimd.sys file is placed in the system upon the installation and configuration of these Atheros firmware resources and drivers.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. wsimd.sys. is used by Atheros Wireless LAN Device Firmware/Driver Software and Atheros Wireless Intermediate Miniport Driver Module, If you shut down wsimd.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
