What is windowsupdate.exe
The windowsupdate.exe process is an executable system file that has been reported by many users as a variant of the Generic VB.b script, which is a malicious program associated with the W32.Spybot.Worm family of worms. These same user reports claimed that the windowsupdate.exe process is disguised as a legitimate Windows Update component in order to trick users into downloading and activating the windowsupdate.exe file upon its placement in the system. Many users also stated that the windowsupdate.exe process, upon its execution, creates keys and entries that it then drops into the Windows System Registry, so this malicious process can automatically initialize during system startup. Upon its successful initialization, the windowsupdate.exe proces then proceeds to operate in the background without user consent, in order to exploit vulnerable system TCP/IP network ports that it can then use to download more malware items and transmit (to predesignated Web servers) data and Internet browsing information gathered from the system and the default Web browser by the windowsupdate.exe process.
