What is  symim.sys

The symim.sys process is the driver file for the Symantec NDIS Intermediate Driver or SymIMMP. It is part of the software Symantec Security Drivers (also known as SymNet or SymNet x64) from Symantec Corporation. The Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) acts like a middle-person between protocol drivers (like TCP or IP) and the driver of the Network Interface Card (NIC). As a virtual adapter, it shows itself to the NIC driver as if it were the protocol driver and vise-versa. Symantec Corporation digitally signed this file via the Symantic Symantec Time Stamping Services. The driver is commonly found in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, with half of its occurrences occupying 36,400 bytes of space. Symim.sys is not a system file for Windows and is generally considered to be reliable. The Windows Control Panel allows users to remove the entire SymNet program. This driver has minimal occurrences as threat.
