Developed by SafeNet, Inc., sntlkeyssrvr.exe is an executable file for producing encryption processing key for Sentinel Keys Server, the software that encrypts disks and files. In cryptography, sntlkeyssrvr.exe or the server key is a single piece of information or parameter that determines and controls the functional data output of a coded or cryptographic algorithm. Without a key, an algorithm produces no useful result. The key functions like a password for transforming a plaintext into a ciphertext or coded information, and vice versa, in a decryption process. Keys also function in other algorithms, such as processing digital signatures and codes for message authentication. Sentinel Protection Server manages networked applications by licensing the information contained in the keys that are installed on the network system. The key is attached to the computer system where the Sentinel Protection Server runs. The software also runs a hypertext transfer protocol thread or HTTP to enable key/license protection over the LAN or WAN.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. sntlkeyssrvr.exe. is used by Sentinel Keys Server, If you shut down sntlkeyssrvr.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop sntlkeyssrvr.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Sentinel Keys Server, from your system.
