The file smpd.exe, known as SMPD Process Manager Service for MPICH2 applications, belongs to software SMPD Process Manager from Argonne National Lab. MPICH2 applications implements the Message Passing Interface (MPI) to provide an MPI implementation for important platforms that include SMPs, clusters, and massively parallel processors. It also provides a tool for MPI implementation research and for developing new and better parallel programming environments. MPICH2 is a freely available, portable implementation of MPI, which is a standard for message passing for distributed-memory applications used in parallel computing. Parallel computing involves calculations that are carried out simultaneously, which operates on the principle that large problems can often be divided into smaller ones, which are then solved concurrently in parallel. The forma of parallel computing include instruction level, bit level, data, and task parallelism. Parallel computing has become the dominant paradigm in computer architecture, mainly in the form of multicore processors.
