The smmon.exe process is identified by most anti-virus programs as a malware. A malware is a software used or programmed by attackers designed to disrupt interrupt computer operations, gather sensitive information, or gain access to private computer systems. They may come in form of programming languages in human-readable text. Smmon.exe belongs to the software Browser Protection Volume. Browser Protection Volume is a harmful, malicious code that comes in the form of a pop-up, which is a web browser that automatically opens up when a user clicks on a link which serves as pop-up trigger. It comes as part of Zlob.fam, a Trojan malware. A Trojan malware may give a hacker remote access to a targeted computer system. It could allow them to view other's webcam, download or upload files to one's computer hard drive, or even cause a computer crash.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. smmon.exe. is used by Browser Protection Volume, If you shut down smmon.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop smmon.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Browser Protection Volume, from your system.
