The process savrt.sys, known as AutoProtect, belongs to software Symantec Protection Suite by Symantec. The antivirus software Symantec Protection Suite provides effective protection for laptops, desktops, servers, messaging and Web gateways using tools called Symantec Insight and real time SONAR 3. Symantec Insight separate files that are at risk from those that are safe for faster and more accurate malware detection while SONAR 3 examines programs as they run, identifying and stopping malicious behavior even of new and previously unknown threats. The Protection suite also features Auto-Protect, which is a first line of defense for computer security. Whenever a user access, move, close, copy, or open a file, Auto-Protect scans the file to ensure that a threat has not attached itself. It monitors the computer for any activity that might indicate the presence of a threat or security risk. By default, this antivirus action should load when the computer starts to guard against security risks and threats.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. savrt.sys. is used by Symantec Protection Suite, If you shut down savrt.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop savrt.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Symantec Protection Suite, from your system.
