What is  odbcconf.exe

The odbcconf.exe file acts as a command line tool that allows the user to configure Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers and data source filenames. The EXE file is associated with the program Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), which comes from Microsoft Corporation. ODBC is utilized to access Database Management Systems (DBMS). An application which uses ODBC can be connected to other platforms, making little changes on the data access code. This process of connecting to other platforms and making changes to access codes are functionalities that are enabled by the odbcconf.exe file. Developers have come up with an ODBC driver to make ODBC independent from DBMS. The ODBC driver functions as a translation layer between the application and DBMS. With odbcconf.exe, an application connects to an ODBC driver to be able to access ODBC functionalities which can pass inquiries to DBMS, among others. An application that uses ODBC is called ODBC compliant.

How can I stop odbcconf.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. odbcconf.exe. is used by Microsoft Data Access Components, If you shut down odbcconf.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop odbcconf.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Data Access Components, from your system.
