The file notify.exe is known as the process Novell GroupWise Notify that belongs to software Notification Utility. Notification allows users to work undisturbed without the need to check messages and emails by displaying a popup reminder on the computer screen. The executable file notify.exe that runs in the background is a tray bar process that alerts users when an email or message is received through a notification window that disappears after a few moments. Users of this application have the option to configure the software to receive notifications automatically or temporarily, select specific notifications, or disable all notifications. To receive notifications automatically, open GroupWise and select "Tools">"Options">[Environment]>"General" tab. Check the box labeled "launch Notify at Startup" on the right side of the window, click ok, then click close. Close and reopen GroupWise for the application to take effect. To disable the process, follow the same steps for automatic notification but uncheck the box labeled "launch Notify at startup".

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. notify.exe. is used by Notification Utility, If you shut down notify.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop notify.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Notification Utility, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Notification Utility, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
