The file nmsd.exe belongs to the process Pro/ENGINEER from PTC. Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) develops, supports, markets software for product development, and specializes on products like CAD/CAM, product life cycle management, and engineering calculations. Pro/ENGINEER (called Creo Elements/Pro since October 28, 2010) is an integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution, that features parametric, feature-based, and associative solid modeling software. It provides tools for assembly modeling, solid modeling, finite element analysis, drafting and NC tooling functionality that is ideal for mechanical engineering, design, and manufacturing. The tools for analysis cover areas that include dynamic, static, thermal, and fatigue finite elements, together with tools designed to help with the development of the product. The engineering design components contain tools for standard pipe work, complete wiring definition, and general geometry that enable users to generate a complete digital presentation of the product being designed. For the manufacturing environment, this application provides tooling design and simulated CNC machining and output.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nmsd.exe. is used by Pro/Engineer, If you shut down nmsd.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nmsd.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Pro/Engineer, from your system.
