The file nkvmon.exe, known as Nikon CoolPix Monitor, is part of the Nikon camera software that is bundled with Nikon cameras. When the camera is attached to a computer, this executable file auto-detects the connection and launches the Nikon's viewer software. The viewer software enables the viewing and downloading of photos stored in the camera to the PC. The driver software is used by the computer to properly identify, connect to, and function with the camera that is connected to the motherboard of the computer. If the driver is not properly installed, the functionality of the camera that is connected to the computer will not be accessed since it will be an unidentified device. A camera driver allows the computer, specifically the operating system, to recognize the camera that is connected to it, and function appropriately with this device. The images that are downloaded from the camera to the computer can be easily saved for future viewing or uploaded to certain websites for sharing.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nkvmon.exe. is used by Nikon Coolpix Monitor, If you shut down nkvmon.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nkvmon.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Nikon Coolpix Monitor, from your system.
