The nc.exe process is the executable file for NetCaptor, a tab-based interface in the Internet Explorer browser, containing a side bar and a panel listing of search results. NetCaptor was a shareware/adware program until its developer introduced a registration key upon the cessation of the program for free public usage. The features of NetCaptor are: • Tab-based browsing user interface • QuickSearch tool that allows users to search directly on the address bar • The use of aliases that can replace the Favorites menu • Automatic data wiper that clears temporary files and cookies when NetCaptor is closed • CaptorGroups that enable users to group searched items and pages for future use • PopupCaptor - a blocking feature for stopping unrequested pop-ups • URL Blocking allows the user to prevent incoming of specified pages from loading • Quick access settings allows the user to quickly enable or disable certain preferences • Quick access to useful pages aids the user in performing tasks more efficiently

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nc.exe. is used by NetCaptor, If you shut down nc.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nc.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is NetCaptor, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as NetCaptor, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
