The msn6.exe process is an executable file that is found in the installation folders of the MSN Explorer software, which is a Windows program designed by Microsoft with a set of tools for integrating MSN and Windows Live functionalities into a Web browser interface. The msn6.exe file is placed in the system to represent the previous version of the MSN Explorer software that was installed in the system before an upgrade (and not a clean installation) was done for a newer version of the program. This means the msn6.exe file appears in the installation folder of the MSN Explorer software upon upgrading a previous version of this application to a newer version of the MSN Explorer program. The msn6.exe process remains inactive during system startup, system runtime and even when the new version of the MSN Explorer application is actively running in the Windows-based system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. msn6.exe. is used by MSN Explorer, If you shut down msn6.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop msn6.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is MSN Explorer, from your system.
