What is  msdtc.exe

The msdtc.exe process or Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) is a part of the Microsoft Windows operating system’s modern versions and is responsible for aligning transactions in a range of multiple resource managers like file systems, message queues and databases. MSDTC does the transaction coordination role, along with .NET and COM architectures. This EXE file is a transaction manager that allows client applications to provide many different sources of data in a single transaction and coordinates the distribution of transactions across all the enlisted servers in the transactions. The msdtc.exe process is installed within the Microsoft Windows operating systems; therefore it runs on all Windows platforms and uses Windows’ File Protection. It runs with a few privileges and acts within the Network Service account on a user’s local computer. The Microsoft’s Personal Web Server comes with it. It is considered that this process needs a Microsoft Application in order to operate well and is advisable to leave it as it is unless it is causing problems for the user’s computer system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. msdtc.exe. is used by Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator, If you shut down msdtc.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
