The mafwtray.exe file is an executable application process deployed by firmware distributions and device driver utilities that are bundled with certain external audio hardware devices from M-Audio as one of its component EXE resource files. The mafwtray.exe process is specifically implemented into the Windows-based system as a component of the M-Audio FW Tray Application module, which is a small program integrated into the firmware resources and driver software utilities of the supported M-Audio device. This module is responsible for implementing the Firewire connectivity support functionalities of these M-Audio external audio devices into the Windows-based system, which means the M-Audio FW Tray Application module uses the mafwtray.exe file to assist in this procedure. The mafwtray.exe file is placed in the system upon the installation and configuration of the associated M-Audio firmware utilities and device driver software components, which also means the mafwtray.exe process is packaged into the installer distributions of these M-Audio drivers and firmware components.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mafwtray.exe. is used by M-Audio Firmware/Driver Software and M-Audio FW Tray Application Module, If you shut down mafwtray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mafwtray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is M-Audio Firmware/Driver Software and M-Audio FW Tray Application Module, from your system.
