What is  ktper.exe

The ktper.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by many users as a malicious program associated with the Worm.Win32.VBNA.jdx program, which is a family of worms known to infect Windows-based computers. Other user reports claim that the ktper.exe file is a malware variant of the Worm:Win32/Vobfus.f application, which is another known worm family. Most of these users state that the ktper.exe process is capable of implementing worm-like functionalities into Windows-based computers upon its successful placement and activation in the system. These users claim that the ktper.exe process can create and inject keys and entries into the Windows System Registry that instructs the system to allow the ktper.exe process to automatically initialize during system startup. Upon its successful automatic initialization each time Windows reboots, the ktper.exe process is said to operate in the background without user consent, in order to create copies of itself and place these duplicates in various data storage partitions of the infected system. The ktper.exe process has also been reported to integrate MIME email-sending functionalities into the system, with the use of unprotected TCP/IP network ports of the infected system that it can exploit for this purpose.

How can I stop ktper.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ktper.exe. is used by Worm.Win32.VBNA.jdx and and Worm:Win32/Vobfus.f, If you shut down ktper.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ktper.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Worm.Win32.VBNA.jdx and and Worm:Win32/Vobfus.f, from your system.
