A lot of users reported that their antivirus applications identify the htv.006 file as a malicious program. Kasspersky classifies the file as a Trojan, while Symantec recognizes the file as a spyware tool. The possible association of this file to malwares by different antivirus programs is the fact that it is part of a keylogger software called Ardamax Keylogger by Ardamax Software. This program is a keystroke recorder that captures the activity of the computer user and saves it as an encrypted log file. Similar programs can be used to monitor the usage of the computer – From files opened/created or software installed, to Internet access activities and details. These activity logs can be sent directly to a designated email. Although usually considered as harmful by most antivirus programs, it is basically a Windows DLL file that is launched when Ardamax Keylogger has been activated, which allows the access of the PC hardware by the keystroke recorder to document users’ actions. However, the presence of the process htv.006 in the machine without having any keylogger recorder software may pose a threat to security.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. htv.006. is used by Ardamax Keylogger, If you shut down htv.006, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop htv.006, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Ardamax Keylogger, from your system.

Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message.
