The hpsw.exe file is a process that is created by Hewlett-Packard to support its digital media driver models including HP 120 series digital camera, HP Photosmart 320/620/720/850, HP 715 digital camera, HP 812 digital camera, HP 215 digital camera, HP USB disk device, HP 315 digital camera, HP photo scanner, HP photo scanner 1200, USB disk device, HP 318/612 digital camera, HP 618/912 digital camera and HP C500 digital camera. This process runs when you start Windows using the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, C:\Windows\win.ini. It is not a core file for Windows. It does not use a visible window. A file with an EXE extension pertains to an executable file or program on OpenVMS, OS/2, Windows, Symbian and DOS operating systems. An executable file is a program that can be run by the operating system as an application on computer. Aside from the executable program, several EXE files have components called resources like icons and bitmaps that the executable program can use for its GUI [graphical user interface].

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hpsw.exe. is used by Hpsw.exe, If you shut down hpsw.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hpsw.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hpsw.exe, from your system.
