The hp100.tmp file is a temporary file. It is not visible. It is not a core file for Windows that means the operating system can run without requiring this process. It can alter or monitor the behavior of Internet Explorer. It can control other applications. Files with TMP extension or temporary files are created to contain information temporarily while the new file is being created. Computer applications may destroy these files for several reasons such as when a program works on data that is bigger than the address space of the architecture, when the program is not able to allocate enough memory to accommodate its tasks or as inter-process communication in primitive form. A temporary folder or directory holds temporary files. Some applications and most operating systems delete its contents upon startup or on regular intervals. Users ideally should keep their won temporary directory due to security weaknesses caused by cases such as race conditions or incorrect file permissions.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hp100.tmp. is used by hp100.tmp, If you shut down hp100.tmp, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
