The hcwsms.exe file is a process that is part of the application Hauppauge MediaMVP created by Hauppauge Computer Works. This program has no visible window. It sends or receives data to and from the Internet or LAN through open ports. It is not a core file for Windows. It is not a system process. Hauppauge MediaMVP is a software that serves as network media player. It has a hardware unit that includes a remote control and a software for Windows. It can play audios and videos, tune in to Internet radio stations and display pictures. MediaMVP can stream video and audio content from a host computer that runs on Windows. It displays photos stored on host computer. You can stream Internet radio through the host computer. It shows live TV with SageTV PVR software and full PVR features for Linux and Windows systems.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hcwsms.exe. is used by Hauppauge MediaMVP, If you shut down hcwsms.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hcwsms.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hauppauge MediaMVP, from your system.
