The file gain_trickler_3102.exe is a process that belongs to the Claria advetising program from Claria Corporation, which is one of the earliest surreptitiously installed adware. This adware is most often installed together with programs that are offered free of charge, such as Kazaa and Go!Zilla. The adware monitors the user's browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's server for analysis, and prompts advertising popups. Claria, previously known as Gator or GAIN, employs the deceptive two-click install. The first click is for the banner ad of the Claria/GAIN software, and the second when clicking on the dialog that asks whether the user wants to install the ad-supported downloads that display GAIN-branded popups and other ads based on websites viewed. In order to deliver ads based on the websites visited, the Claria/GAIN software involve some form of tracking and monitoring of the activities of the user. Although the user's explicit consent is always required to install the application, the Claria advertising program took advantage of the fact that most users do not bother to educate themselves about the software that they are installing.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. gain_trickler_3102.exe. is used by Claria Adware, If you shut down gain_trickler_3102.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
