The process ftk.dll is a direct link library (dll) file for software XML Extender. DB2's XML Extender provides the ability to store and access HML documents, to generate XML documents from existing relational data, and to insert rows into relational tables from XML documents. XML Extender provides the users with tools to manage and exploit XML data with DB2, such as administration tools for managing the integration of XML data in relational tables, storage and access methods for XML data within the database, and a mapping file called the Document Access Definition (DAD), which is used to map XML documents to relational data. DB2 is a family of relational database management systems (RDBMS) products from IBM that serve a number of different operating system platforms such as UNIX-based systems and personal computer operating systems. DB2 databases can be accessed from any application program by using Microsoft's open database connectivity (ODBC) interface, the Java database connectivity (JDBC) interface, or a CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) interface broker.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ftk.dll. is used by XML Extender, If you shut down ftk.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ftk.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is XML Extender, from your system.
