The freshclam.exe is a process which is part of the ClamWin Antivirus and which automatically updates the list of virus definitions and other related functions of the software. The process does this by doing regular downloads of virus database updates and always check if there are new virus definitions once the user connects to the Internet . It also gives a schedule when a user should scan his computer. The schedule shows the date of the next scheduled update and when the last update has been performed. The freshclam.exe process is useful for protecting the computer system from any security threat. If the user allows the process to run on Windows startup, he does not have to manually activate it every time it is necessary to update the virus definitions. Moreover, the freshclam.exe only uses a small space in the computer memory and it does not have a big effect on the system performance.
