The brstsw64.exe file, or Brother Print Status Window, is the executable process for the background tasks on system startup installed by the Brother printer drivers indicated by the System Tray icon. This icon can be double-clicked for ink level checking and the current activity of the printer (idle, printing, or scanning). This printer status icon also pops up an indicator window when printing, and showing the progress of the current printing job. Users are noted that this process can cause annoying 5-10 second delays on some PCs when using MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as some simple errors when trying to shut down the computer and a pop-up screen message that a current task has to be closed first. This issue can be resolved by changing the printer settings of the Brothers Printers icon in the Control Panel where the user goes to the Advanced tab of the Properties settings, and choosing the “Print Directly to Printer" option.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. brstsw64.exe. is used by Brother Print Status Window, If you shut down brstsw64.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop brstsw64.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Brother Print Status Window, from your system.
