The bhdrvx86.sys system file is the process for the Bash driver, a software developed by Symantec Corporation for their new product Bash, a malware detector and antivirus. Viruses start as a minor, single infection through mutation and/or refinements by attackers. It grows into dozens of different variants. Generic virus detection pertains to the detection and the removal of system threats using a virus definition. As virus identification is advantageous, a quicker method can even be more helpful to detect viruses thru their category or family by generic signature or a keyword match. Virus researchers search for common areas for virus families that share both a common or unique signature. These signature types often contain an identifiable code, by wildcard characters thru which differences lie. The wildcards enable the scanner detect viruses even when they are layered with excess, meaningless codes. This method of detection is known to be called the "heuristic detection".

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. bhdrvx86.sys. is used by BASH Heuristics Driver set 86, If you shut down bhdrvx86.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
