The executable process file, backupnotify.exe (2004.1.8.0) is identified as HPIZ311 or Backup Notifier belonging to the HP Digital Imaging Application and is part of the software, HP Image Zone Plus, HP Image Zone, HP Photo and Imaging (version 2.0), HP Photo and Imaging, or HPIZ311 as developed by the Company Hewlett-Packard Co. as an accessory program. It is a program for home office, business and home use and functions as a launcher for the HP Image Zone Plus Application. The process file is found running in the Task Manager as the process backupnotify.exe and has features found to be that of being a compressed file, having a visible window but is not considered as a Windows system file neither is it considered as CPU intensive. Upon the Windows boot process, the process file is loaded with the Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run, where the location may differ in various versions and languages of Windows including in the subfolder C:\Program Files (C:\Program File\HP\Digital Imaging\bin. The process file is ready for use on Windows 98, XP, ME and 2000, where it is considered to have a file size of 24,576 bytes (64% of all occurrences), 31,650 bytes, 32,7686 bytes or 38,924 bytes.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. backupnotify.exe. is used by Backup Notifier, If you shut down backupnotify.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop backupnotify.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Backup Notifier, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Backup Notifier, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
